When I was 21, I applied for a radio job in Santa Barbara at the FM rock station KTYD. Didn’t get the job, but never lost the likes for the city, its coastline, culture and vibe. My nephew Kevin is now going to college, working and surfing in Santa Barbara. We met up with him and Uncle Doug and Cousin Chris for lunch at Brazil Arts Cafe on bustling State Street. Cashel had an acai bowl, Dan and I ordered São Paulo smoothies. We got to see the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Southern California go by and then adjourned to the Press Room on Ortega Street for a Firestone Walker Union Jack IPA and blogger laptop battery recharge. J7 surf shop on Mason Street in the Funk Zone was another highlight of our Santa Barbara visit. Wednesday’s waves were mostly ankle busters so the lads did their pop shuvits on Pasado Road in IV and then joined us at El Cap with dinner from Pizza My Heart in Goleta.
