The toughest golf course in San Diego might be the little nine-holer overlooking Highway 52 in University City. Let me know the next time you break par on that bad boy. To call it an executive course is a stretch. There’s nothing executive about the pitch and putt, especially with the deterioration of greens, removal of benches at each tee box, and renaming as Town Park Villas GC.
Still, it’s a challenging track that can be played in an hour and only requires a couple of clubs and a putter. Over the years, my friend Glenn and I have played it a hundred times. Always with Guinness, and usually with a side bet Rite Aid ice cream cone riding on the outcome of 7, 8 and 9 (the highway holes).
Dan and I met him for a quick nine on Sunday afternoon and Cashel joined us to greet Glenn the guru of Guinness and golf.
